You Have 72 Hours.
What would you do if your religious leader was arrested today — and the world wasn’t paying attention?
In this live, interactive simulation, you will step into the role of an international advocacy coalition facing a high-stakes Freedom of Religion or Belief crisis. A minority faith leader has been detained under vague national security charges. Media coverage is scarce. The government has a record of retaliation. You have 72 hours before the case fades from view.
Your mission: decide what happens next.
Participants will work in small strategy teams to determine:
-
Whether to go public or pursue quiet diplomacy
-
Which actors to contact first
-
How to engage media and international mechanisms
-
How to mitigate risk to the detained leader and their family
-
What actions could unintentionally make the situation worse
Each team will present a rapid response plan and receive real-time feedback. Midway through the simulation, new developments will force you to reassess your strategy — just as in real advocacy work.
This is not a lecture.
It is a test of judgment.
Designed for both emerging and experienced advocates, this session will sharpen your strategic thinking, expose the tradeoffs behind high-pressure decisions, and reveal the complexity of real-world FoRB response.
Whether you are new to advocacy or deeply involved in the field, you will leave with a clearer understanding of:
-
How international pressure actually works
-
Why timing matters more than volume
-
Where advocacy often goes wrong
-
What responsible, effective action requires
In FoRB work, certainty is rare. Leadership is measured by discernment.
