Closing the Gap: Access to Justice for Women from Religious Minority Communities

This parallel event at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70) examines persistent barriers to justice women from religious minority communities face and proposes actions to address these barriers.

The discussion will highlight the harassment, discrimination and persecution, based on gender and religion, that religious minority women face in three regions of the world, the systemic failures of states and non-state actors to address these compound violations, and recommendations to strengthen access to justice.  The session will contribute to the Beijing+30 review and propose actions that are aligned with:

  • The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW)
  • The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)
  • The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 5 & SDG 16)
  • The Beijing Platform for Action (Women and the Law; Human Rights of Women)Register here:
